Coronavirus Still A Concern In Westchester

The county executive said the numbers are not as bad as they were in March and April.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — The coronavirus continues to be a concern in Westchester County.

According to the state COVID-19 tracker, there were 242 new positive cases of the virus Monday, with 5,528 people being tested.

The percentage of positive tests is 4.37 percent.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 42,696 people have been infected.

The one micro-cluster zone in Westchester in Port Chester and Rye Brook had a positive rate of 14.66 percent, for a seven-day rolling average of 8.02 percent.

The zone is designated "yellow," meaning gatherings are limited to 25 people both indoors and outdoors, houses of worship can only be 50 percent of maximum capacity, indoor and outdoor dining is allowed, though with only four people maximum per table and schools are open, but there is weekly testing of 20 percent of in-person students and faculty.

At his weekly news conference Monday, County Executive George Latimer said the county has seen a steady increase in the extent of the virus.

"We have not by any means reached the crisis stage that we were in in March and April," he said.
