Coronavirus: Westchester County Deaths Reach 809

The signs seem to be pointing to a flattening of the curve in the county.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — The number of active cases of the new coronavirus is now the lowest it's been in almost two weeks. According to numbers announced Tuesday at Westchester County Executive George Latimer's news conference, there were 24,656 confirmed positive cases in the county — an increase of 350 from Monday.

To date, there have been more than 74,500 tests administered in the county. Slightly more than one-third of those tested have been positive.

Latimer said that the number of active cases as of Tuesday in the county is 9,852. He said it's the first time the number of active cases has been lower than 10,000 in 10 days.

Those facts show a decrease of the virus in active situations, Latimer said.

"We have flattened the curve here in Westchester," he said.

Latimer said the number of people who have died is now 809. He said that the weekly rate of deaths is beginning to decrease.

"We hope that's a good sign, that the rate continues to drop," Latimer said.
