​County Receives Award For Sprain Ridge Pool Complex

WHITE PLAINS, NY — The Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation was recently presented with the New York State Recreation and Park Society’s 2020 Exceptional Facility Design Award. The tribute was for the newly refurbished Sprain Ridge Competition Pool, which is one of the many aquatic attractions at the county’s Sprain Ridge Pool complex in Yonkers.

“The pool was the culmination of a lot of people working really hard together: the Parks Department, our Department of Public Works and Transportation, and our partners in the Board of Legislators,” said County Executive George Latimer.

The long-anticipated debut of the pool’s re-opening took place July 31, 2019. The pool can hold 500 swimmers, and features eight 50-meter racing lanes across its length and six 23-meter racing lanes across its width.

A new zero-depth entry ramp for people with walking challenges, a 4-foot recreational swim area and two 1-meter-high diving boards were also added.

Each year the New York State Recreation and Park Society presents a series of awards that recognize the contributions of the variety of people and organizations who make New York’s parks, recreation and therapeutic recreation facilities work their best, according to a spokesperson.
