Free Depression Screenings

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s Westchester Division will hold free screenings for depression on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 11:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. in the Hospital’s Center Building conference room D.  The confidential screenings are open to the public at no charge.  Participants may walk in without pre-registering, or call for an appointment at (914) 997-5779.

Screening participants will have an opportunity to take a self-test and meet individually with a mental health professional for a brief interview. Educational materials and refreshments will be available.  Referrals for treatment will be offered, if necessary.  Common symptoms of depression include persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness and helplessness, difficulty in sleeping, changes in appetite, and a lack of pleasure in activities that were once enjoyable.  Depression may also be characterized by thoughts of death and suicide.  It is a diagnosable illness that can be treated.
