Batto Do: The study of the way to draw and cut with a sword in a single motion. It is practiced from a standing position. The studying of Batto Do focuses on kata and tameshigiri training. Tameshigiri is the practice of test cutting on rolled tatami mats. Tameshigiri helps validate proper cutting techniques and abilities.

The US Federation of Batto Do was founded to help promote the art of Batto Do. Because of the various sword styles, standardized sets of kata and cutting patterns are used in training. This helps connect different styles of iai or batto and foster a common ground among sword groups.
The Genbukan Dojo would like to invite fellow practitioners experienced in Japanese swordsmanship as well as those who have never picked up a Japanese sword before, for a day of kata and tameshigiri training.
