The YWCA White Plains & Central Westchester will host a Summer Camp Open House on January 22, 2012 from 11am to 2pm. This is an opportunity to learn more about all of the summer programs at the YWCA: Little Friends Camp, Camp Funkist, Travel Camp, Gymnastics Summer Program, and Summer Camp for People with Developmental Disabilities. You will have the opportunity to meet our camp directors, counselors, and activity leaders.
In our Little Friends Camp, preschoolers will to enjoy structured days with activities including music, nature, sports, and arts and crafts. This program is tailored specifically to toddlers and preschoolers and is led by experienced early education teachers. A NEW addition to the Little Friends camp for 2012 is the Creative Adventure group, which will offer good old fashioned summer fun with educational enrichment, incorporating topics such as science, literacy, math, and community for children age 5.
Camp Funkist, for elementary and middle school students, offers an array of age appropriate activities including arts & crafts, guitar, lacrosse, tennis, swimming, gymnastics, soccer, karate, mosaic crafts, jewelry, mask making, nature, music, and dance. Field trips are planned once per session as well as great special events.
Travel Camp is an option for older campers 12-15 years old. These children have the opportunity to visit different attractions and destinations each day. The schedule and activities aim at building independence in teens while giving them ample time for summer relaxation.
Gymnastics for summer is a 5-week program offering full-day gymnastics to girls and boys ages 6 and up at all levels of ability. Participants will learn a variety of skills, while developing physical strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, social skills, and confidence in a safe and fun environment.
Special Programs for children with developmental disabilities offers swimming, art, music, games, and outdoor play in its Summer Camp and Summer Sunday programs. Participants enjoy this program, which gives them time for social interactive, fun and relaxation.
