Expelled Student Admits Filming Classmates In Marist University Bathroom, Pleads Guilty To 15 Felony Counts

DUTCHESS COUNTY, NY — A plea has now been reached in a bizarre crime at a storied Hudson Valley school.

Dutchess County District Attorney Anthony Parisi announced on Friday that 23-year-old Kyle Petrozzi, pleaded guilty to 15 counts of felony second-degree unlawful surveillance in Dutchess County Court.

Sentencing is scheduled for September 16.

"The defendant's actions represented a serious and disturbing invasion of privacy and a violation of the trust and sense of security that every person deserves, particularly in places where privacy is expected," Parisi said. "By secretly recording individuals without their knowledge or consent, the defendant victimized multiple people and caused understandable fear and distress. This guilty plea holds the defendant accountable for his conduct and reflects our Office's commitment to protecting victims and prosecuting crimes involving unlawful surveillance and exploitation. I want to thank the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department and Marist University officials for their diligent work and cooperation in in this case."

According to the DA's Office, the incidents charged in the indictment took place between April 27 and May 10, 2025. Petrozzi, who was a senior at Marist University, set up surveillance cameras in gender-neutral bathrooms throughout Dyson Hall, resulting in several people, both men and women, being filmed inside the bathrooms, according to prosecutors.

Petrozzi was set to graduate in May 2025, but was expelled by the university due to the allegations, the DA said.

The case was investigated by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, and is being prosecuted by Deputy Unit Chief Nicholas LaStella with the Special Victims Unit.
