Fate of White Plains' Rue21 Store Decided

The teen clothing retailer will shutter one of its three retail locations in the Hudson Valley to focus on its online business.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — Today's consumer climate has taken its toll on many retailers that once stood over their respective markets as giants, with many announcing widespread store closures almost weekly. This trend continued, with teen clothing retailer Rue21 announcing it would be closing some stores in what they say was a "difficult but necessary decision."

While initially not announcing the number of stores affected, the Associated Press later reported that the retailer would close 400 its stores, shedding approximately one-third of its locations nationwide to focus on online sales.

There are there Rue21 locations in the Hudson Valley, located in Middletown in Orange County, Hudson in Columbia County and White Plains in Westchester County. Only the White Plains store, located in the Galleria in White Plains, is slated to close.
