Former Rye Councilwoman To Run For Senate District 37

The special election will take place April 24.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — Former Rye City Councilwoman Julie Killian has been picked for the Republican slot for a special election to fill a state Senate seat for the 37th District vacated by George Latimer. Killian was picked Wednesday night over former Yonkers inspector general Dan Schorr at the GOP mini-convention in Hastings-on-Hudson.

Killian will face state Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer, a Democrat from Yonkers, in the just-announced April 24 election, the Journal News said.

The vacancy in the 37th District occurred when Latimer was elected Westchester County executive and took office Jan. 1

The 37th District contains parts of the cities of Yonkers, White Plains and New Rochelle as well as Bedford, Harrison, Mamaroneck, North Castle and Rye.
