WHITE PLAINS, NY — Girls Inc. of Westchester County helped kick off the 2019 high school graduation season by hosting a college shower June 1 for New Rochelle, Mount Vernon, Harrison and Lakeland seniors enrolled in Girls Inc. programs.

Ninety-eight percent of Girls Inc. Westchester students plan on going to college, and this year’s class includes girls headed to Notre Dame, Harvard, Providence College, Marist College, Iona College, and Mercy College as well as SUNY Albany, Stonybrook, Plattsburgh and Delhi.

“Traditionally, we throw showers for women to celebrate marriages and giving birth, but at Girls Inc. Westchester, we believe that young women also deserve special recognition for their academic achievements,” said Michelle A. Nicholas, Executive Director, Girls Inc. of Westchester County. “Our organization has prepared them with the space and opportunities they need to see themselves as leaders of positive change in their lives and communities and we want them to know that we are as confident and excited about their futures as they are.”
