Hazardous Weather Outlook Kicks off Weekend in White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, NY — We end the work week with what Hudson Valley Weather called a "supersoaker." You know what those giant squirt guns can produce? Well, widespread rain across the lower Hudson Valley could bring an inch or more of rain today, with some communities seeing 2 inches or more.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for southern Westchester.

There is potential for some minor poor drainage flooding in low lying areas today. There is a marginal to slight risk for flash flooding.

"Expect periods of moderate to heavy rainfall, with the potential for a few rumbles of thunder, from mid morning into mid afternoon," said Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. Any way you look at it, it’s a Friday soaker."

Here's the NWS forecast for southern Westchester through the weekend:

• Today: Rain, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 59. East wind 14 to 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
• Tonight: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Patchy fog. Low around 57. Southeast wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
• Saturday: Rain likely before 10am, then a chance of showers between 10am and 1pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Patchy fog before 1pm. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 64. South wind 9 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
• Saturday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 48. South wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
• Sunday: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. Southwest wind 6 to 10 mph.
• Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42.
