Improvements Planned for Westchester County Airport

Officials say the multimillion-dollar upgrades will begin in 2016.

Roughly $30 million worth of upgrades are coming to Westchester County Airport, according to officials, in a move to modernize the traveler experience.

The Journal News reports that among the improvements are an updated and streamlined baggage check-in system, more bathrooms and additional seating areas.

The airport terminal also could grow in size by about 20 percent from it’s current 41,000-square-feet, and it is looking to add more bridge access above the tarmac from planes to the building.

The improved baggage area will be completed toward the end of 2016, but other upgrades are further off.

“Right now, we’re just behind the curve on how we treat our customers,” Peter Scherrer, the airport’s manager, told The Journal News.
