Judy Matson: A Life Well Lived

Judy Matson was a friend to me, to ArtsWestchester and to the entire Westchester community. Her passing is a loss to all of us, and I can say with great affection that she always gave generously of herself to many worthy causes. I think of Judy Matson as a quiet force who worked with ArtsWestchester during the Andrew O’Rourke administration to secure more funding for arts activities. Later, as an executive at Fujifilm, she brought significant philanthropic support to the arts and parks. I admired Judy for her principles of justice, her dedication to the arts and her dignified presence. Judy was a key aide to County Executive Andrew O’Rourke, before which she held an administrative position at the Hudson River Museum. While Judy was involved with many causes, it was through her passion for the arts that we bonded. She served as a board member of ArtsWestchester long before my tenure at the organization and her legacy is formidable.

Judy’s vision for ArtsWestchester still resounds in the extraordinary roster of services we provide. In fact, I can still hear her whispering in my ear.
