Letter To The Editor: GOP Accountable For Corrupt Tax Bill
Activist organization Indivisible Westchester takes a stand against the tax bill now being considered in Congress.

WESTCHESTER, NY — The Republican tax bill that passed the Senate late Friday night is a slap in the face to the American people. Republican Senators are giving large tax cuts to corporations and their top donors by making deep cuts to essential services like Medicare and Medicaid, making healthcare and education more expensive and, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, add a trillion dollars to our national deficit.
This blatant consolidation of power by the richest goes against the ideals of this great nation. The Republican Party has made it clear that they do not care about fiscal responsibility, or the democratic process. This deal was cut hours before a vote, with last minute handwritten amendments, in backroom deals with corporate lobbyists and campaign donors. It is corruption, plain and simple.
Now Republicans must reconcile the Senate version of this legislation with the one that passed the House last month. Both plans are outrageous — cutting taxes on the wealthy at the expense of everyday Americans — but this gives us time to keep calling, writing, tweeting, and taking action to make our voices heard. Over the next few days we are ready to stand indivisible to resist the Republican tax bill.

We support a democratic process that is for the people, and reject Republican actions that have put party over people.
The 2016 election was a turning point that galvanized grassroots activism to fight for the democratic ideals of justice, equality and freedom for all. Our collective activism grows stronger and more organized every day, and we are ready to fight the GOP tax bill and every other challenge to our democracy and freedom that comes our way.
