LHRIC Manager to Serve on State's Educational Technology Advisory Committee

Veteran Education Technology Expert to Serve on State Education Department Committee

Sarah Martabano, manager of the LHRIC’s Instructional Technology Department, was selected earlier this month to serve on the New York State Education Department’s Educational Technology Advisory Committee (ETAC) for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years.

Ms. Martabano was one of 27 candidates to be chosen from a pool of close to 500 applicants based on her expertise, interest and dedication to improving student achievement through educational technology.

The Office of Educational Design and Technology established the committee with the intention of obtaining feedback, advice and assistance from educators throughout the state on current and future educational technology initiatives, including tech literacy, tech planning, professional development, online and blended learning, as well as other innovative practices.

Ms. Martabano, who has served as the LHRIC’s manager of instructional technology for the past five years, said she is honored and excited to be part of the new committee.

“I’m passionate about the work we do for the students of New York and believe it is essential that we all advocate for improved policy and funding that will support research-based, innovative practices to improve the educational experiences of all learners,” she added.

Ms. Martabano has long believed in creating more awareness for educational technology initiatives in schools, especially “if we are going to bring contemporary instructional tools and practices to our classrooms equitably,” she noted.

She hopes her participation in the committee will help inform and advocate for effective and essential improvements.
