LHRIC's TELL Awards Laud Innovation in Technology

Teachers, Administrators from Several Local Schools Honored

Three teachers and two technology directors from a number of local school districts were the recipients of the Lower Hudson Regional Information Center’s TELL Awards March 29.

The accolades, which focus on teachers and administrators who are transforming education through leadership and learning, were handed out to representatives of the Bronxville, Croton Harmon, Greenburgh, Katonah-Lewisboro, Mount Vernon and Pearl River schools.

The LHRIC also recognized six school districts in its CS/STEAM Academy, naming them “Outstanding Innovative Partners.” They include Croton-Harmon, Mahopac, Peekskill, Port Chester, Suffern and Yorktown.

In his opening remarks to kick off the annual awards ceremony, which was held at the Edith Macy Conference Center in Briarcliff, LHRIC Executive Director Dennis Lauro said the event was a reminder of how important technology has become to a child’s education.

“Tech is not something that can be thought of as an add-on,” he said. “It truly is an integral part of everything we do.”

The recipients of the Outstanding Innovative Teacher Award included: Marcia Daley-Savo, a social studies and ELA instructor in the Katonah-Lewisboro School District; Catherine Brennan, the Innovation Design Lab coordinator in the Croton-Harmon School District; Katherine Tovar Furst, an ELA instructor in the Greenburgh Central School District; and James Guerci, an ELA teacher in the Pearl River School District.

The award for Outstanding Innovative Leader was handed out to Jennifer Forsberg, director of technology for the Bronxville School District, and Joseph McGrath, administrator for technology in the Mount Vernon City School District.
