Liberty Street Fire: White Plains Police Officers Save Man from Burning Building
The incident occurred April 2.

During a recent fire that emergency personnel tackled on Liberty Street, a pair of White Plains police officers saved an 84-year-old occupant by carrying him to safety, according to the White Plains Police Benevolent Association.
Officers Joseph Garafolo and Anthony Carra are being praised by the department for their quick, heroic actions to save the man, who was having difficulty getting out of the building through the smoke.
Officer Garafolo was able to kick down the door to get to the man, and the officer suffered an injury to his knee in the process. He and Carra were able to then carry the man out to the street.

“This call demonstrates the best of everything that the White Plains Police Department offers,” the White Plains PBA wrote on its Facebook page. “Officer Garafolo and Carra’s rapid response to the scene saved time where it was truly of the essence. Their brave actions in risking their own lives without protective equipment to save another has no adequate word to describe it. Specifically, Officer Garafolo’s determination, despite being injured, is exceptional. Congratulations gentlemen, on a job well done!”
