Much Needed Moisture: Work Week Weather for White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, NY — The work week will start and end with plenty of sunshine, and by midweek temperatures will again be above average for the end of November.

"But the real story for this week," said Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather, "appears to be the anticipation of some substantial rainfall between Tuesday and Wednesday."

The region could get 2 inches of rain from two waves of low pressure at midweek, he said, "Welcome news for an area that has been moisture starved all year."

Meanwhile, temps in New York City could hit 60 degrees.

Here's the National Weather Service's forecast for southern Westchester County:

• Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 49. West wind around 6 mph becoming south in the afternoon.
• Tonight: A 30 percent chance of rain after 4am. Cloudy, with a low around 43. Southeast wind 3 to 6 mph.
• Tuesday: Rain, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Widespread fog. High near 59. Southeast wind 8 to 16 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
• Tuesday Night: A 30 percent chance of rain before 10pm. Areas of fog. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 47. Southwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight.
• Wednesday: Rain, mainly after 2pm. Areas of fog. High near 58. Light northeast wind becoming east 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
• Wednesday Night: Rain, mainly before midnight. Areas of fog before midnight. Low around 47. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
• Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 56.
• Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 37.
• Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 52.
• Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 35.
