Starting tomorrow, New York State will expand vaccine eligibility to those 50 years and older. In addition, pharmacies will now be able to vaccinate adults with underlying health conditions, known as co-morbidities. Pharmacies were previously limited to vaccinating only seniors and teachers. If you are eligible, I urge you to schedule a vaccination appointment, as eligibility categories will continue to expand in the near future.

There are several ways to do this. You can check the State website, covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov or call the State Hotline at 1-833-NYS-4-VAX (1-833-697-4829) to check for openings at the County Center, Yonkers Armory, and other state–run vaccination sites. We recommend that you check this site regularly at all times of day as appointment availability comes and goes quickly. The County dashboard also lists the names of local pharmacies throughout Westchester that have received doses of the vaccine. Check out this list and call the pharmacy directly for an appointment.

Today, I had the opportunity to visit several of our schools with Superintendent Ricca. The White Plains School District has begun its full-time reopening process with all of the appropriate protocols in place. The kids were excited to be back

and the teachers were clearly energized as well. This is a great step forward for our community!

Vaccination efforts are starting to bear fruit. As of yesterday, 30% of the population of Westchester County have received at least one shot, and 15% have been fully vaccinated. This is good news, but as I’ve said before, we must continue to wear our masks and observe the common sense protocols that have brought us to this point, until everyone has had the opportunity to be vaccinated. We are going to continue to follow the advice of medical and public health professionals and be guided by the science here in White Plains. The finish line appears to be in sight but we must maintain our focus through to the end.

Our next call is on Tuesday, March 30th. Until then remember, we’re standing together by staying apart.
