Hochman, 52, had retired from the force in January, after more than 20 years, but neighbors spoke of marital problems between Hochman and his wife, Anamarie Hochman. Anamarie and their oldest daughter, Samantha, were not at home at on Saturday, having taken a day trip to the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut, according to reports.
“As of now, it would appear that both victims were shot, as was their father,” Harrison Police Chief Anthony Marraccini told The Journal News. A weapon was recovered at the scene, which is believed to have been used in the crime.

Hochman was discovered by police in the garage, and the two girls were found in their bedrooms. Additionally, Hochman killed the three family dogs, according to police.
The New York Post reports that Hochman left a note at the scene, the contents of which have not been disclosed.
Hochman was a decorated officer, having received recognition prior to his retirement for saving a life. He also was a volunteer member of the local Emergency Medical Services unit.
“The department is shocked and horrified by the news of this unfathomable tragedy. We can only pray for the family,” said White Plains Public Safety Commissioner David Chong in a statement. “Officer Hochman served this department and the city of White Plains with honor and integrity for over 22 years.”
Police were called to the scene at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday by a neighbor. Anamarie reportedly grew worried when she couldn’t reach anyone at the house and contacted a neighbor.
“As I got closer I heard basically crying, screaming,” neighbor Dante Garritano told the Daily News. Garritano arrived at the home after police. “It’s just a shame...Everyone was very upset.”
Police union attorney Warren Roth told The Journal News that he had know Hochman since before he became an officer, or more than 25 years ago.
“It’s just devastating to a lot of people,” Roth told The Journal News. “He was always a quiet, reserved guy, nothing ever seemed to unsettle him. ... And he was wonderful with his daughters, a devoted father. That’s the scary part. There was absolutely no seeing this coming.”
