Renowned researcher to speak at Alzheimer's Association reception
Event will be held at Fordham University's West Harrison campus

On Tuesday, Sept. 17, the Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter will host an Alzheimer’s and Dementia Research Reception at Fordham University West Harrison campus featuring guest speaker Maria C. Carrillo, Ph.D.
As the chief science officer for the Alzheimer’s Association, Carrillo sets the Association’s strategic vision for global research efforts, overseeing research initiatives such as the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) and the Research Roundtable. In addition, Carrillo manages the World Wide Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative, a multi-country research effort aimed at accelerating the early detection of Alzheimer’s.
A noted public speaker, Carrillo is involved in the Association’s efforts to lobby the public and private sectors for increased funding for the disease. She directs the Association’s support of research through the International Grants Program, which has invested more than $455 million in promising and innovative science since 1982. She is also a co-primary investigator for the Association’s own research project, the U.S. POINTER study, a lifestyle intervention trial to prevent cognitive decline and dementia.

“We are so excited to have Dr. Carrillo here in Westchester, to speak to us locally about the incredible research the Alzheimer’s Association is supporting nationally and internationally,” said David Sobel, President and CEO of the Hudson Valley Chapter.
