Snow Chance, Temps Cold: Weekend Weather for White Plains

Is the Hudson Valley embarking on another just-missed-us series? Here's the latest on what to expect around White Plains.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — Is the Hudson Valley embarking on another just-missed-us series? The weak storm system to our south overnight went out to sea, leaving most of us with only a dusting of snow.

Now there's another coastal storm "lurking," in Hudson Valley Weather's apt description. But meteorologists are not predicting a lot of impact there either — and what there will be, will be in Rockland, Putnam, Westchester and southeast Orange counties.

"With any coastal storm, you don’t let your guard down, until the storm has passed by… data can always change," said Bill Potter of HVW. "But this has all the markings of a 'close call'."

Yes, he said, the models show us on the edge. But they almost always underestimate the cold dry air already in place.

"As the storm moves northeast, if it can exceed expectations and get even closer to the coast… a dusting to 2 inches wouldn’t be impossible," he said. "There would be a sharp cutoff between decent snowfall, and nearly nothing… so Westchester County especially would need to pay close attention."

Impact will be felt on eastern Long Island and southeastern Connecticut, where the National Weather Service predicts "significant" snowfall. And, if you're traveling to the South, note that Georgia and Alabama have both declared a state of emergency due to the winter weather, according to AccuWeather.com.

What we should get, everyone agrees, is cold temps, with highs only in the 20s.
