STEAMy Summer Programs In White Plains Public Library

Another summer of STEAM programs has finished. This was a challenging and rewarding summer like no other. In addition to increasing the length by two weeks, we also hired several more people to run programs. Among those hired were several high school students: members of the Techno Chix; a robotics club from the Girl Scouts; Mustafa Ajmal, a high school student in Oak Ridge High School, CA; and Shakira Cherimond, a graduating Senior from Ossining High School who will be attending Purchase College in the fall.

By hiring multiple presenters this summer we were able to offer a wide variety of programs: 3D Prototyping with the Techno Chix, 3D Design and Printing, Learning How to Paint Using Color Theory, Introduction to Website Development, Introduction to Photography, Package Design, Introduction to Coding with Python, and Introduction to Programming using JavaScript. Registration for all of our programs filled up quickly. Since this was virtual we were able to open registration to more students than we have in the past with a total of 71 Zoom attendees. Many students joined us for nearly every session as well.

The Library greatly appreciates the ongoing support from Verisk Financial for these Summer programs. The students who participated in them had a wonderful time and learned so much. This is an incredible opportunity for students to learn new skills and have fun over the Summer.
