StoryWalk(R) Gets Families Moving
StoryWalk® returns to White Plains Library. Families are invited to come combine activity and reading.

Want to keep your family active in the midst of winter? Bring your elementary-aged children and stroll along the pages of Little Melba and Her Big Trombone (by Katheryn Russell-Brown and illustrated by Frank Morrison) at White Plains Public Library. The StoryWalk® starts next weekend, Sunday, February 15 and runs through Sunday, March 15. It is available during regular Library hours.
African American jazz musician Melba Doretta Liston was the first woman trombonist to play in the big bands during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Little Melba tells the story of how she selected the trombone as her instrument, taught herself to play it and later taught many of the great jazz musicians of the twentieth century.
The innovative StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk® encourages families to get moving while also improving literacy. StoryWalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
