On-Street Valet Parking to Come to White Plains Businesses

The approved legislation aims to ensure valet operations are consistently structured and organized.

White Plains businesses can soon offer on-street valet parking services.

The Common Council approved a comprehensive valet parking ordinance at a recent meeting that ensure such operations are consistently structured and organized.

Mayor Tom Roach has advocated for valet parking legislation since he was first elected to the council and he said he was pleased to see it come to fruition.

“We know that many businesses view this service as a critical component to their success,” he said. “However, we also know that if it is not done properly it can easily become a negative.”

The ordinance includes provisions to ensure the following:

  • The use of public streets for valet parking services does not impede travel, interfere with the rights of others or cause a public nuisance.
  • Valet operators are properly insured.
  • On-street valet operators are obligated to provide the service to the general public, regardless os destination.

Applicants will have to comply with insurance, safety and parking requirements in the ordinance, a copy of which can be found on the city’s website here, under the Parking Department.
