Substance Abuse Treatment is Topic of WJCS 2016 Kurz Conference, Dec. 8

Panelists will discuss tobacco use and cannabis' effect on the young brain

The WJCS Annual Kurz Conference will focus on “Substance Abuse Treatment: Widening the Circle,” and related panels will discuss family members helping substance abusers, smoking cessation and cannabis’ effect on the young brain. Keynote Speaker is Jeff Foote, PhD, Co-founder, Center for Motivation and Change, and co-author of the award-winning book “Beyond Addiction: How Science and Kindness Help People Change.” Dr. Foote, also a psychologist for the New York Mets and deputy director of the Division of Alcohol Treatment and Research at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York City, will share his evidence-based treatment research and outline pathways to change behavior of substance abusers, including the role of loved ones in the path to recovery. Other panels will discuss related substances likely to be abused including tobacco and cannabis.

The conference is open to healthcare and other professionals as well as community members.

This year for the first time social workers can earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) by attending the keynote speech and at least one workshop. The fee for the conference is $60.
