Temps To Jump On Presidents Day Weekend In White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, NY — The high on Friday won't break 40. It's the sunny skies that are the harbinger of the balmy three-day weekend to follow, with temps jumping 15 degrees or more.

"Here in the Hudson Valley, we’ll have a bit of a battle between some colder air to our north, and this mild flow across the United States," said Bill Potter from Hudson Valley Weather. "Even so… it looks as if we’ll break into the 40s and 50s Saturday and Sunday, melting the majority of the snow in the area."

Gusty northwest winds will continue as low pressure over the Canadian Maritimes tracks northeast away from the region, the National Weather Service said. Temperatures today will be near normal, in the upper 30s to around 40.

Then comes the swing.

"Another thaw is coming… which shouldn’t surprise many of us, after the way winter has gone so far," Potter said. "Winter isn’t finished… but it’s gradually running out of time."

Motorists and pedestrians beware: as the snow shrinks, melting and freezing cycles can lead to areas of black ice overnight and in the early morning.

“Cities like Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York City, Baltimore, and Washington D.C., will either challenge or break the 60 mark on Saturday and Sunday,” said said AccuWeather Meteorologist Max Vido.

The NWS issued the following forecast through Monday for southern Westchester:

• Today: Sunny, with a high near 40. Wind chill values between 20 and 30. Northwest wind 9 to 14 mph.
• Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 27. Northwest wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.
• Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 53. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the morning.
• Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 38. West wind around 6 mph.
• Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 53. Northwest wind 6 to 10 mph.
• Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 34.
• Washington's Birthday: Sunny, with a high near 48.
• Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 29.
