Thunder First, then Arctic Air: Work Week Weather in White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, NY — Rain and even some thunder kick off the return to school and work. Hump day will be dry and mild, but then the wolf of winter returns.

"We’ll see the winds shift out of the NW on Wednesday, which will gradually usher in some colder, Canadian air late on Wednesday," said Bill Potter from Hudson Valley Weather. "That will set up a five-day period of below average temperatures for our area."

As the cold air pushes into the Northeast on Thursday and Friday, there is the chance for some moisture to be drawn up from the South, bringing the chance for some snow showers, said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist. Around New York City, high temperatures may struggle to get much past the freezing mark this weekend.

• Tuesday: Rain. High near 42. Northeast wind 11 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
• Tuesday Night: Rain, mainly before midnight. Steady temperature around 42. Northeast wind 5 to 13 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
• Wednesday: Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 48. West wind 7 to 13 mph.
• Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 25. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. West wind 11 to 15 mph.
• Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 33. West wind 10 to 13 mph.
• Thursday Night: A 30 percent chance of snow showers after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23.
• Friday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers before noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 31.
• Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19.
