United Way Nonprofit Summit to Focus on Encouraging Diversity

Full-day program will be held at the Doubletree in Tarrytown on May 4

Westchester County, N.Y. (March 1, 2020) – Not-for-profit organizations from across the region will gather in Westchester on May 4 for the 18th Annual United Way of Westchester and Putnam’s Nonprofit Leadership Summit to learn about how organizations can recruit fresh leadership with an eye for diversity, equity and inclusion.

This year’s summit will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Tarrytown from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. with featured breakfast and luncheon keynote speakers and a variety if breakout sessions.

The theme for this year’s summit is “Preparing for the Success of Tomorrow begins with Embracing Equity Today.” The goal is to help encourage not-for-profit organizations to focus on diversity and inclusion as core values throughout their operations, programs, and leadership. “What better time than today as so many of our organizations are seeking new, fresh leadership for us to focus on our core values of diversity, equity and inclusion,’’ said United Way of Westchester and Putnam President and CEO Tom Gabriel. “Leaders of the future should be reflective of the communities we represent.’’

Both breakfast and lunch keynote speakers will focus on this theme, while each workshop will incorporate the theme within the subject matter presented. Starting the day off, Richard Brown, Vice President of Philanthropy at American Express, will talk about the importance of diversifying the current landscape of nonprofit leaders and transforming an organization’s capacity to attract, develop and retain leadership talent. Sean Thomas-Breitfield, co-director of the Building Movement Project and co-author of the Race to Lead Report, will be the lunch keynote speaker. He will address the nonprofit racial leadership gap.

There will also be two breakout sessions that each offer a variety of different workshops to attend.
