Valhalla School System Launches Mobile App

To download the app, visit the Apple Store/iTunes or the Google Play Store and search for "Valhalla Union Free School District."

The Valhalla School System has launched a mobile app, making district information available from smartphones.

“It’s critical to the District, parents and community members that we continuously increase our access to information,” said Superintendent Brenda Myers in a statement, adding the app is powered by Blackboard. “Whether it’s a celebration, a budget update or a safety alert, it’s important to use technology to provide information to the public and continue the dialogue.”

To download the app, visit the Apple Store/iTunes or the Google Play Store and search for “Valhalla Union Free School District” or “Valhalla School District.” It is a free service and is available on iPhones and Androids.

The new Valhalla Schools app “integrates a wide variety of information into one location. It is a centralized place for news, calendar items, contact information, sports, advocacy, resources, pictures, My Learning Plan, School Bucks, and the District’s several social media sites, among many other options,” according to officials.

Instead of perusing through Valhalla’s vastly informative District website, each school’s individual website, and a plethora of Facebook and Twitter sites, all of the information is conveniently located right on your phone and can be found at any time.

Valhalla’s administrators have long been advocates for integrating more technology into the District to keep up with the changing times that constantly include more web-based and mobile initiatives. In addition to providing technology-based education to students and technology-based professional development to staff, the app is an all-reaching tool that is customizable to suit each community member’s needs.

“We know that we live in a world where plenty of information comes from apps,” said Dr. Myers. “Valhalla’s new app now gives our community a new and more convenient way to view our information.”

The District began working with Blackboard at the end of 2014. The Leadership Team and the School Board were introduced to the app through presentations in early spring. The app was officially released to the public in early May.
