Westchester County Pools, Beaches to Open for Season Friday
County officials offer safety information for swimmers and beach-goers.
With Westchester County pools set to open for the season Friday, county officials offered safety tips for residents and their families.

Astorino said that parents should watch their children when they are in or near the water.

Amler said, with the warmer weather, it was important for beach goers to stay hydrated and protect their skin from effects of the sun and from mosquitoes.
She said suncreen should be applied first and the EPA-registered insect repellent second.
“Be sure you and your family drink lots of water throughout the day at the pool or beach to avoid heat exhaustion,” said Amler. “Wear a hat and sunglasses, avoid the midday sun and reapply broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every two hours, especially after you swim or sweat, to avoid sunburn.”
