WHITE PLAINS, NY — Westchester County Executive George Latimer continue distributing masks to communities around the county and was in New Rochelle Friday. The city was the first "hot spot" in the country after a New Rochelle man in early March became infected with the new coronavirus and spread it through attendance at religious functions.

Mayor Noam Bramson was on hand to receive the masks and said he was enormously proud of how the city responded to the crisis.

"To be clear, we are not out of the woods," he said, adding that the number of active cases of the virus is down to about zero in the original containment zone — an area that was a 1 mile radius around Young Israel of New Rochelle.

"I'm confident that we will remain smart," Bramson said, "and will keep moving through the reopening process."

Latimer noted that New Rochelle has numerous construction projects throughout the city. Now that the Mid-Hudson region is open for Phase One those construction jobs can start back up.

He said the masks, which were donated by the Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association and Hanes Brands Inc., were distributed to some of the major houses of worship in the city.

Latimer said that the coronavirus tracker had not been updated since Thursday, but the county did provide a map of confirmed and active cases of the virus broken down by community.
