The patient has tested negative but will stay in isolation until the end of the incubation period, county health officials said.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — A Westchester County resident is being monitored for the new coronavirus, officials announced Monday. The patient has tested negative for the virus, but state and federal health rules require they stay in isolation because they were possibly exposed to the virus, which has sickened 31,400 people around the world globally and caused more than 640 deaths.

The local patient was transported to a Westchester County facility from New York City for isolation on Monday, health officials said. The person has cooperated with health officials, who have been closely monitoring their condition.

There are 12 confirmed cases in the U.S. in Washington, Arizona, Massachusetts, Illinois and California, according to the CDC's status report Monday.
