To qualify for the awards, the students’ families had to have met eligibility guidelines established by the Jandon Foundation. The recipients are academic achievers whose families are on public assistance or living below the poverty level.
Founded by Jane and Donald Cecil of Harrison, the private foundation has given out scholarships to more than 200 students.

Board of Legislators Chairman Michael Kaplowitz thanked the Cecil family for its continued dedication and support of education for Westchester’s young people.
Noting that Jane Cecil died in July, Kaplowitz said the scholarships are a wonderful part of her legacy.
“It is a privilege to carry on the Jandon program here at the Board of Legislators to help further the philanthropic goals of the Cecil family to enable these students,” he said.
