White Plains High Boasts Only Mariachi School Band In State

The group was founded four years ago by a then-freshman.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — Which school in the state is the only one that has a mariachi band? White Plains High School holds that distinction.

Singer and violinist Leslie Navarro, 16, a senior, founded the band four years ago, the Journal News said.

The band’s name is Mariachi Juvenile Los Tigres and was started when Navarro approached the school’s orchestra and strings teacher.
