White Plains Hospital Announces New Directors & Section Chiefs

Department Directors and Section Chiefs were appointed in multiple clinical areas at White Plains Hospital

Several well-respected and board certified physicians have been appointed as Department Directors and Section Chiefs in multiple clinical areas at White Plains Hospital, effective January 1, 2019. The seven physicians and surgeons who have assumed their new leadership roles represent some of the areas of expanding medical and surgical specialty at the Hospital as it continues to build on its advanced clinical programs and services.

Dr. John Cardasis, of New York City, is the new Section Chief of Critical Care, overseeing a team of Intensivists – physicians who are all double boarded in critical care medicine and a variety of other specialties including general surgery, emergency medicine, and pulmonary and internal medicine. Intensivists provide specialized care in the Hospital’s critical care areas, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU). Dr. Cardasis is triple board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Kay Lovig, of Bedford, a specialist in endocrinology and metabolism with a focus on women’s health, weight management, thyroid disorders and diabetes, is the new Section Chief of Endocrinology. She came to White Plains Hospital in 2015 and practices out of the White Plains Hospital Physician Associates locations in Armonk, New Rochelle and White Plains. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology.

Dr. Boris Chulpayev, of New York City, is the new Section Chief of Neurology at White Plains Hospital, where he joined in 2017. Dr. Chulpayev leads many of the growing stroke program initiatives at the Hospital, collaborating with other clinicians to ensure the timely delivery of the most advanced evidence-based care for stroke patients. As Director of the Stroke Program, he is leading the Hospital’s efforts to expand state of the art stroke care. He is board certified in Neurology and Psychiatry and board eligible in Vascular Neurology.

Dr. Andy Casden, of Scarsdale, is serving as Department Director of Orthopedics. He joined White Plains Hospital from the Mount Sinai Medical Center in 2017 as Chief of Orthopedic and Spine Surgery, and practices out of White Plains Hospital Physician Associates in White Plains. He is a board certified orthopedic spinal surgeon specializing in the treatment of herniated discs, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, and degenerative diseases of the spine and has extensive experience in the field of spinal deformity, including scoliosis and kyphosis in both children and adults.

Dr. Zsolt Kulcsar, of Queens, is the new Section Chief of Rheumatology. Practicing out of the White Plains Hospital Physician Associates locations in Armonk and New Rochelle, Dr. Kulcsar specializes in the treatment of rheumatic and autoimmune disorders. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. Dr. Kulcsar is also a leader in the implementation of the Hospital’s emerging telemedicine services, which utilize advanced technology systems to enhance communication and convenience among providers and patients.

Dr. Lori Madmon, of River Vale, New Jersey, is the new Director of Pediatrics. A board certified pediatrician, Dr. Madmon oversees the care of all pediatric patients admitted to White Plains Hospital, where she has served as the lead pediatric Hospitalist physician for many years. In that role, Dr. Madmon managed inpatient care for all pediatric inpatients, collaborating closely with attending pediatricians and other specialists as needed.

Dr. Carolyn Lederman, of Scarsdale, is the new Section Chief of Ophthalmology. A board certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Lederman practices out of the Lederman & Lederman group in Purchase and Stamford where she specializes in pediatric ophthalmology. She is also an Assistant Attending at the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute of Columbia University, where she teaches and lectures.

Michael Palumbo, M.D., Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at White Plains Hospital, commented on the appointment of the six physicians and surgeons in their new positions. “These talented individuals will be a great asset to our Hospital in their expanding roles as division leaders,” he said. “As our Hospital continues to grow and build on the advanced clinical services we provide, their expertise and dedication is a key component of our success in delivering the highest quality care and patient satisfaction.”
