White Plains Hospital Invites Area Workplaces to join Second Annual Ex-STEP-tional Walking Challenge

Westchester-wide challenge kicking off May 2nd – registration now open

Following the successful inaugural Ex-STEP-tional challenge held in 2015, White Plains Hospital is once again launching the popular, county-wide walking challenge for 2016. The White Plains Hospital Ex-STEP-tional challenge, presented with sponsorship from the Journal News, will be held from May 2 - May 26.

Workplaces across Westchester can form teams consisting of 5 members (larger workplaces may have multiple teams). Teams will compete against each other to see who can take the greatest number of steps throughout the Ex-STEP-tional challenge. It is free to participate, and White Plains Hospital will also provide teams with free pedometers to track their steps. Registration is now open through April 15 at www.wphospital.org/exsteptional. The Hospital will hold an awards luncheon on June 23rd to recognize the winners.

Pedometers can be picked up at four convenient White Plains Hospital locations: White Plains Hospital (41 East Post Road, White Plains); White Plains Hospital Medical and Wellness (99 Business Park Drive, Armonk); White Plains Hospital Women’s Imaging Center at Rye Brook (90 South Ridge Street, Rye Brook); or White Plains Hospital Physician Associates in New Rochelle (1296 North Avenue in the Wykagyl shopping center, New Rochelle).

New to the program this year is the addition of a Physician Champion. Assuming this role is White Plains Hospital Orthopedic Surgeon Daniel Markowicz, MD. According to Dr. Markowicz, “The benefits of walking are well known, and the Ex-STEP-tional challenge is an excellent way for many people to fit exercise into their busy lives. It’s easy and fun – especially when you do it with your colleagues and friends. I myself will be leading by example.”

More than 610 individuals and 122 teams participated in the Ex-STEP-tional challenge last year – including Mayor Thomas Roach (who officially declared November 5, 2015, Ex-STEP-tional Challenge Day in the City of White Plains) and the City of White Plains, Assemblyman David Buchwald, State Senator Terrence Murphy, People’s United Bank, Coldwell Banker, American Heart Association, Brown and Brown Insurance, White Plains School District, Westchester County Association, and Volunteer New York.
