White Plains Hospital Wins Second Straight ENA Lantern Award for Emergency Nursing

WHITE PLAINS, NY — White Plains Hospital has earned its second consecutive Lantern Award from the Emergency Nurses Association, a recognition for its Emergency Department and its emergency nurses.

The hospital said it was one of seven hospitals in New York State and 126 worldwide selected to receive the three-year designation this year.

According to White Plains Hospital, the Lantern Award is one of emergency nursing's highest honors. The hospital said recipients are chosen through an application process that evaluates patient outcomes, nursing excellence, innovation, and an organization's commitment to quality and staff well-being.

"This recognition from the Emergency Nurses Association is a testament to the extraordinary skill, compassion and commitment of our ED nurses, as well as the collaborative culture we have built alongside our physicians and the entire emergency services team," Chief Nursing officer Kerri Elsabrout said. "Receiving this award on the heels of our fourth Magnet designation is affirmation of the quality of our Nursing team and their commitment to deliver the highest quality care and experience to every patient who comes through our doors."

White Plains Hospital Emergency Department cares for nearly 90,000 patients each year, following a 52 percent increase in patient visits over the past decade. That makes it the busiest Emergency Department in Westchester County and the 71st busiest in the country.

"The foundation of our Emergency Department is the incredible expertise, compassion and partnership between our nurses, physicians and multidisciplinary care teams," Medical Director of Emergency Medicine Dean Straff said. "This award celebrates that collaboration, and the commitment of our emergency nurses to provide timely, coordinated, exceptional care across the full spectrum of emergency medicine."

The award comes as White Plains Hospital continues its "Campus Transformation Project." The hospital said the Emergency Department will nearly double in size when the expansion opens in 2028.
