White Plains to Kick Off 100th Anniversary Celebration Jan. 1

The city was incorporated 100 years ago.

The White Plains Historical Society, as part of the City’s Centennial celebration in 2016 to mark the 100th anniversary of the city’s incorporation, will help kick off the event this month with a special presentation to Mayor Tom Roach.

During a ceremony on Dec. 22, the group will present Roach with a ceremonial gavel that was used by White Plains’s first Mayor, Ffarington M. Thompson, at the first Common Council Meeting on January 1, 1916.

The gavel will remain on loan to the City during the Centennial year. City officials are planning to hold various events throughout the year to recognize the Centennial.
