White Plains Librarian Ben Himmelfarb Named to Library Journal's Movers and Shakers 2016 List
Local librarian named to prestigious Library Journal annual list.

Ben Himmelfarb, White Plains Librarian for Local History, was named to the prestigious “Movers and Shakers” list selected by Library Journal for 2016. While still early in his career, Himmelfarb has “made…our local history collection come alive for the community,” says Kathleen Degyansky, White Plains Public Library Assistant Director, who nominated Himmelfarb for the recognition. He has created a popular local history roundtable where people meet to discuss a variety of community topics, from urban renewal to affordable housing. Himmelfarb also spearheaded a project called “People and Stories” which comprises of trained volunteers who record the stories of a wide variety of White Plains residents for posterity, amplifying voices that may have previously been unheard.
For the past 15 years, Library Journal has annually selected approximately 50 people in the library field who are innovative, creative, and making a difference. “Movers and Shakers” recognizes the people who are moving public, school, academic, and special libraries ahead.
