White Plains Lions Club Sponsors iPod Donation Drive to Help Alzheimer's Patients at The Kensington Assisted Living Residence

Use an iPod to help Alzheimer's patients - Don't Throw it Away - DONATE it!!

Donate an iPod to help enrich the lives of people with Alzheimer’s disease & other dementias

The White Plains Lions Club is proud to sponsor an iPod donation drive benefiting individuals who suffer from Alzheimer’s Disease and other Dementia’s. The recipients are residents of The Kensington Assisted Living Residence in White Plains, NY. The White Plains Lions Club is working with Director of Memory Care, Joanne Hubbard, who is launching the “Music & Memory” Program (http://musicandmemory.org/) with the help of these donated iPods.

Benefits of the Music & Memory Program:

  • Participants are more upbeat, often regaining lost ability to communicate verbally;
  • Visits with family and friends improve;
  • Better moods lead to calmer social environments and closer relationships with care professionals;
  • Staff enjoy their jobs more;
  • Growing evidence supports field observations that personalized music can be a viable alternative to antipsychotic medications.

Music has a strong emotional component. Listening to music has been shown to be able to help with bringing back memories associated with hearing that music, and therefore of processing information.

The iPods are used for a form of musical therapy designed to help calm patients and make them happier and more sociable by playing music from their younger years. The Kensington will develop individual personalized playlists for each participant which have special meaning to them.

Search throw your drawers, gym bags and closets and donate your unneeded iPods to The White Plains Lions Club.

You will make a HUGE difference in the life of a person with Alzheimer’s Disease.
