White Plains To Provide Sunscreen At Parks, Pools

The contactless dispensers will provide free SPF 30 sunscreen.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — If you and your family plan to enjoy the White Plains' parks and pools this summer, the city is going to help protect your skin. Contact-free sunscreen dispensers will make their debut Tuesday at the Gillie Park Tennis Courts in White Plains.

As a reminder of the importance of prevention and routine care, White Plains Hospital has partnered with the city to offer contactless dispensers that will provide free SPF 30 sunscreen at parks and pools throughout White Plains this summer.

A total of 15 dispensers will be available at locations throughout White Plains, including Gillie Park, Delfino Park, Gardella Park and Pool, Kittrell Pool, Baldwin Farm Community Gardens and Turnure Park.

The dispensers will be unveiled at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Gillie Park tennis courts, 85 Gedney Way in White Plains. The ceremony will be attended by Mayor Tom Roach, White Plains Hospital's Senior Vice President Dawn French and Kelly Christman, a board-certified dermatologist with White Plains Hospital Physician Associates.

According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer, with more than 5 million new cases in the United States last year.

"Sunscreen is the first line of defense in reducing the risk of skin cancer and should be part of your everyday routine," French said. "We are so pleased to partner with the city to encourage the use of sunscreen by making it accessible at pools and parks around the city."
