White Plains' Walmart To Close In August

The company said it wants to focus on larger stores that also carry groceries.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — The White Plains Walmart will close its doors by Aug. 10. The store employs almost 400 people who the company will work with to transfer to other locations.

A Walmart spokesman said the company is focusing on supercenters, which also sell groceries, the Journal News said.

Walmart in White Plains is located in the downtown area at 275 Main St.

When the store closes, the only other Walmart in Westchester County will be in Mohegan Lake, which is almost 20 miles away from the White Plains location.

Closer to White Plains is the Walmart in Suffern, which is a little more than 18 miles away.

The Norwalk Walmart at 680 Connecticut Ave. is actually closer than either of those two stores, at a little more than 17 miles from White Plains.

Other Walmarts in the Hudson Valley include Valley Stream, Monroe, Fishkill, Newburgh and Middletown.
