White Plains YMCA To Sell Mamaroneck Avenue Building
Over the past four years, the YMCA has invested more than $1 million in the aging building.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — The YMCA of Central and Northern Westchester has decided to put its Mamaroneck Avenue building up for sale. The organization made the announcement in a post on its website Monday. The YMCA said it expected to continue to operate at the location for the entire length of the 18- to 24-month process and then move to a non-facility YMCA model, which leverages other non-YMCA-owned locations to bring existing and new services to its members.
Cynthia Rubino, president and CEO, said the costs of maintaining the aging building were unsustainable, and the organization felt it was its best option to continue offering its many services to its members.

“These funds would be better spent bringing vital services to our community at various locations throughout our service area,” Rubino said.
“The YMCA is not a building,” she said. “It’s a movement. Community groups have asked us to bring our many resources to them.”

Rubino said that across the country YMCAs are transitioning out of the gym business into health, wellness and youth development partners.
“We are excited about the flexibility we will have to provide quality child, teen and senior programs to our service area,” she said.
The YMCA is seeking program partners as it moves to this new model. Youth development, healthy living and social responsibility programs at the heart of the YMCA-CNW mission, Rubino said.
