Wind Advisory Kicks off Work Week in White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, NY — The National Weather Service has two notices out for southern Westchester:

• Hazardous Weather Outlook
• High Wind Warning in effect from February 13, 01:02 PM EST until February 13, 06:00 PM EST

The winds are from 20-30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. That's enough to blow down limbs, trees and power lines.

Colder air is advancing into the region on the backs of these northwestern gusts, said Alex Marra of Hudson Valley Weather.

However, meteorologists are downplaying the changes for another storm midweek, as new models show different timing and paths for two fronts that looked last week as if they'd combine over the region.

Here's the NWS five-day forecast for southern Westchester:

• This Afternoon: Mostly sunny, with a steady temperature around 36. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. Windy, with a northwest wind 25 to 28 mph, with gusts as high as 48 mph.
• Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 22. Wind chill values between 15 and 20. Blustery, with a northwest wind 17 to 22 mph decreasing to 11 to 16 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 38 mph.
• Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 38. Wind chill values between 15 and 25. Northwest wind 6 to 9 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon.
• Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. South wind around 6 mph.
• Wednesday: A slight chance of snow showers before 11am, then a slight chance of rain showers between 11am and 3pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 41. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
• Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 27.
• Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 35.
• Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 24.
• Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 36.
• Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 26.
