WMC Elevates Kartik Prabhakaran, MD to Trauma and Acute Surgery Chief

VALHALLA N.Y. (July 20, 2022) – Westchester Medical Center, the flagship hospital in the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), has elevated Kartik Prabhakaran, MD, to the position of Chief, Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.

In his new position, Dr. Prabhakaran will oversee emergency general surgery, trauma and surgical critical care. Westchester Medical Center has the only Level I adult trauma care program verified by the American College of Surgeons in New York State north of New York City to Albany and west to Syracuse.

Dr. Prabhakaran completed his undergraduate education and graduate degree in public health at Johns Hopkins University. After earning his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Dr. Prabhakaran trained in general surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at Lincoln Medical Center/Cornell University.

Dr. Prabhakaran actively serves on both regional and national committees in the field of trauma, and has been an invited speaker to many local, regional, national and international meetings to share his expertise in the field of trauma and acute care surgery.
