Woman's Club Fundraiser for White Plains Library
The Woman's Club held a fundraiser to support the WP library foundation.
The Woman’s Club of White Plains is celebrating its centennial this year and has embarked on a year-long program of activities and charitable works to celebrate its wonderful history. One of these events was the Winter Tea held on Sunday, February 7. Harkening back to its early days when “Teas” were a common social event and fundraiser, the Club held the Winter Tea to benefit the White Plains Library Foundation.
Over fifty club members and their guests were on hand to enjoy a variety of teas and coffees as well as an assortment of sandwiches and desserts. In addition, there were displays of tea settings and a number of teapots ranging from the traditional to the eccentric for review. The historic CV Rich mansion, clubhouse of the Woman’s Club, was a wonderful setting for the event.
Diane Tabakman, president of the WP Library Foundation, was an honored guest as well as several other members of the Board of Directors including Denise Matthews-Serra, Yuki Itoh Haynes and Joan Kass. Libby Hollahan, former Library Foundation Executive Director and Woman’s Club member was also present. Ms. Tabakman discussed the mission of the WP Library Foundation, highlighting the recent opening of “The Edge”, a teen oriented area and discussed the upcoming plans for “The Hub” which will be geared to adult users and pointed out that the Foundation supports a wide range of after-school programs, outstanding cultural events, literacy initiatives, convenient online services, programming for teens, and career resources which enrich the lives of all WP residents. She expressed her gratitude to the Woman’s Club for their generosity in selecting the library as the beneficiary of the event.
