Woman's Club Holds Winter Tea

the recent Winter Tea at the Woman's Club of WP raised money for Pace Women's Justice Center

The Woman’s Club of White Plains which just completed its centennial year has kicked off its next 100 years with its Annual Winter Tea on January 29, 2017. The event was chaired by Linda Cuono, Eileen McGarvey and Phyllis O’Keefe.

Nearly 50 guests attended the Tea which raised funds for Gail’s House, a program of the Pace Woman’s Justice Center. The Center which has been in existence for twenty-five years offers support to women who are victims of domestic abuse and elder abuse. Gail’s House will be a walk-in center to provide immediate legal assistance for victims of domestic and elder abuse.

Cindy Kanusher, Executive Director of the Pace Women’s Justice Center and Gretchen Flint, law professor at Pace and board member of the Center attended. Ms. Kanusher spoke about the history of the center and the plans for Gail’s House. Both were extremely grateful for the contribution of the Woman’s Club and for its recognition of the Center’s important work.

The Woman’s Club was also pleased to honor Helen K. Darling at the affair. Mrs. Darling who was president of the Club from 1998-2001 just celebrated her 50th anniversary as a Club member. She spoke of the importance of the Club to her and to the community and remains a strong supporter of the Club’s philanthropic activities.

The Woman’s Club has several fundraisers each year to raise monies for local charities. The next event will be the Spring Fashion Show and Scholarship Luncheon. This will raise funds for the scholarships for graduating White Plains high school students. Further information on events is available on the website www.womansclubofwhiteplains.org.

The Woman’s Club of White Plains is a diverse group of women with a shared sense of civic responsibility and a desire to give back to the community. Its mission is to enhance the lives of others as well as their members by participating in and sponsoring volunteer, charitable and fund-raising activities as well as social, educational and networking opportunities. In addition, the Club is also responsible for maintaining and restoring the historic CV Rich mansion, its clubhouse since 1930. The Woman’s Club believes every woman can contribute to the various opportunities the Club offers and invites women of all ages to join them as they continue their work to improve our communities.
