Throughout its history, the Woman’s Club has worked to show the community at large its true purpose. Although some have seen it as only a social club, others have recognized its charitable and philanthropic focus. In 1936, Club president Ruth Hamilton Norton stated, “The Club is expected to give moral and financial support to various organizations.” She stressed that the parent organization, The Federation of Women’s Clubs, “emphasizes our moral obligation and urges us to prove ourselves, as a vital and integral part of the community.”
In 2016, the Woman’s Club membership is very diverse, representing women of all ages, religions and ethnicities. While the Club still provides a social and networking venue for its members, its primary focus remains on its remarkable commitment to supporting local charities and volunteerism. The new logo is a reflection of the vibrant and progressive nature of today’s Woman’s Club of White Plains and it is hoped that the bright bold colors will inspire women to take look at the new Woman’s Club and get involved.

This year the Club’s 100 Acts of Kindness campaign expands upon its current portfolio of volunteer activities. The campaign was kicked off by collecting 100 Warm Coats for the Burlington Coat Factory Warm Coats & Warm Hearts Coat Drive and toiletries for domestic violence victims at My Sisters’ Place. Currently members are assembling pet food donations for the Hudson Valley Pet Food Pantry and proceeds from the recent Winter Tea will be given to the White Plains Library Foundation.
The public is urged to donate blood at the upcoming Blood Drive on Saturday, February 27th between the hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Club on Ridgeway. The Blood Drive will support the White Plains Hospital Blood Bank. Future plans include an Indoor Tag Sale in March, supporting the City of White Plains Soles 4 Souls shoe collection in April, a paperback book drive for our troops, and a mittens collection for Head Start students among other activities. Some of the 100 Acts of Kindness activities will be supported by fund raising events during the year that are open to the public.
Mayor Tom Roach said, “2016 is a milestone year for both the City of White Plains and the Woman’s Club, with each celebrating its centennial anniversary. Although the City has undergone many changes during those 100 years, it is good to know that even in the midst of change there is continuity. The White Plains Women’s Club and its steadfast commitment to our community is an example of that continuity and White Plains is the better for it. Congratulations on 100 years!”
New members are always welcome at the Club’s historic home, the CV Rich Mansion. The public is also encouraged to come out and support the Woman’s Club’s events as it continues its tradition of supporting the community.
