Dog Run Comes to East River State Park in Williamsburg

The ribbon was finally cut on the new dog run on Thursday.

WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — Dog lovers in Williamsburg have been chasing a dog run at East River State Park for over three years, but on Thursday, they finally caught it.

The newly opened play space for pups cost $450,000. The money was awarded in 2013 through Williamsburg Councilman Stephen Levin's participatory budgeting process, as reported by the Brooklyn Paper.

Along with Levin, North Brooklyn Assemblyman Joseph Lentol, himself a proud dog owner, attended Thursday's ribbon cutting ceremony.

Lentol told Patch that his Dutch Shepherd pup is named Prieva, short for "Reprieve," as she was rescued at the last possible moment from a nearby shelter.

Prieva was not in attendance at the ribbon cutting, as she “would have been really excited," Lentol said.
